The philosophy that guides us
tatra sthitau yatnah abhyasah YSP 1.13
The practice of yoga is the commitment to become established in the state of freedom... Iyengar Yoga is based on the *Yoga Sutra’s of Patanjali, a dynamic practical and theoretical philosophy, and the most authoritative of all the texts with 196 sutras that serve as maps for the inner journey. It is a system of life which when practiced with awareness can develop every level of our being - physical, mental, emotional and spiritual - enhancing all aspects of our lives.

Yoga - the Iyengar way...
Iyengar yoga differs from other yoga in several ways:

  • it is the most practised yoga throughout the world.
  • it is physically strengthening, mentally engaging, emotionally fulfilling and spiritually uplifting.
  • it is versatile & teaches awareness - not just flexibility as it enhances balance creates clarity & teaches serenity of mind.
  • it is energising - its dynamic approach is not stagnant - teaching is adjusted for reasons such as age, gender, season, experience or degree of health.
  • it develops understanding - within the class, throughout the month, and over the changing seasons of the year.
  • it uses props to develop understanding - especially when one is injured or has chronic deteriorative conditions.
  • it is a positive & empowering approach toward good health.

“Yoga is nothing if it is not perfect harmony of the body, senses, mind and intellect, reason, consciousness and self. When all these are integrated that is true Yoga.” - BKS
